Different RAM Types and its uses

The type of RAM doesn't matter nearly as much as how much of it you've got, but using plain old SDRAM memory today will slow you down. There are main types of RAM: SDRAM, DDR and Rambus DRAM.

SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM)
Almost all systems used to ship with 3.3 volt, 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs. SDRAM is not an extension of older EDO DRAM but a new type of DRAM altogether. SDRAM started out running at 66 MHz, while older fast page mode DRAM and EDO max out at 50 MHz. SDRAM is able to scale to 133 MHz (PC133) officially, and unofficially up to 180MHz or higher. As processors get faster, new generations of memory such as DDR and RDRAM are required to get proper performance.

Apple looks set to bring Wi-Fi to the iPod nano. That’s according to a report from Japanese Apple site Macotakara. It claims it’s spoken to sources who say that the dinky music device will be getting the update at the annual iPod event, due in October.

The move would mean that iPod nano users could use iTunes in the Cloud to access content which they’ve previously bought but had not synced with their PMP. With iPod sales continuing to fall as iPhone and iPad sales soar, this could at least slow down the decline of one of the world’s most iconic gadgets.

Microsoft Surface could be the last straw for Android tablets progeasy

The tablet user experience is a curious thing. There’s really two different kinds of users. You are either a tablet user that wants to move some of the content from your smartphone to a larger screen, or you’ve got it in your mind that you can curb your PC dependent workflow around the limitations of the tablet OS.

When you find yourself as the latter, you wind up playing this game of sacrifices and compromises. You spend hours looking for the right combinations of apps to accomplish the tasks you would normally complete with ease on your traditional PC. When it works, and you are able to bend your workflow to suit your device, there’s this sense of victory over your task as though you’ve beaten the system. The reality of the situation is that, whether you are using iOS or Android, you were the one who was beaten into obeying the limitations of the hardware in front of you.
